the one thing i want the most is to keep /bug active so we (every player) can help them swat bugs as fast as they show up
that is what i want |

I'm fairly certain that /bug will stay active.
Also let's not attack people for giving a suggestion. I or you may feel it's not needed but that doesn't mean someone's an idiot for giving it. By all means explain why you think it isn't needed but let's not attack the people posting. I for one don't think we'll see a walk command. I remember there was one in EQ and since there was no penalty for running, no one ever walked except over hills where you might fall if you ran and take damage which was mega stupid. DAoC had walking and running, running was great for getting away from trouble but it had a short duration and caused an exhaustion type effect after long. |

I will give you another reason to advocate on you side aladdar GW is a fast-paced game, designed to deliver fast action. This is an important aspect of the game. Personnally, I don't like games where I need to roll a dice waiting to see how much damage I will inflict. If there would be a 'walk' feature, there is a risk, altough minimal, I could enter inside a 'walking team' in an outpost. I am not talking about PvP, walking would simply be impossible. But while in Player vs Monsters, if I fall in a 'walking team' that want to make the whole mission without even a single run, I think I would personnally fall into big deep depression during the mission.
Furthermore, I am not saying I want to slow down the whole game. Far from me! I love the actual rhythm (or pace or beat or cadence : I dont know the right translation here for the french word 'rythme') of the game. If I would have posted a thread here,3-4 months ago, intitled : "I want a breakdance feature". Everybody, I mean not half of them, I mean everybody here would have Laugh out Loud thinking, "Damn, this man is crazy!". But, surprizingly, if I pick up a Ranger male char, I can actually breakdance everywhere if I want. Walk is a small thing. I don't know why the designers have decided to push aside the walking feature. Maybe they really want to create a kind of "sentiment d'urgence" as we say in french, a "feeling of emergency" might be a good translation. If I would be asked to, I would even bet 'walk' is already coded, the animations done, a few click away to be implemented. But perhaps, and I am not the best placed person to judge that, it is really not a good idea to make walk possible in GW. To respond to a previous poster who smily said something like "do you want to be able to pick up flowers"? I will remember you, for the whole people benefit, that I can actually pick up flowers for Gwen, and that I heard nowhere it was stupidous. Anyway, I will still give an example of the utility of walk. It will probably be my last intervention on the guru forum for the moment, since it is hard for me to understand completely what is said because english is not my native language. Furthermore I will silence myself a few days, waiting to mature myself, cause all these discussions are taking me too much time, emotion, and seems not to be that well appreciated from the community so far. Example : When you try to accomplish the merchant's plea quest, you have to careful. When you take the ascalon settlement direction, If you attack more than two chars teams, your chances to survive are quite tenuous. You have to attack one char team at a time, trying to forward without being seen if possible. What best way to keep yourself in a safe range than walk? I don't see the Chars running until they finally see me. Did you see them running all the time? I can probably give a few other examples where walk feature would be fun to use. I mean not only useful. I mean fun. But I will let you people imagine forward if you want to. And as Photics said in the 15th issue: "Minor tweaks to game design can infinitely improve the gaming experience. The quest for perfection is what separates mediocres games form exceptional ones". I believe GW is one of those exceptional games. I think walk ability is one of those minor tweaks. I may be wrong about walk. And I respect that possibility too. ___________ Once an idea is given, it doesn't own you anymore. |

I would like to walk as well. It adds to certain things. Say, if you're roleplaying something in particular, or just socializing and don't feel like running around everywhere...
Meh. I like the idea of being able to. It's not a game-breaker or anything, but it would be nice to have. |

Not realistic that you can't walk or skip or jump, eh?
Well, I might be in a unique position here, but I play *fantasy* games because they let me do things that I can't do in real life. If I really, really wanted to walk, I'd turn off the computer and go outside. The resolution is really good, and the FPS is *outstanding*. Now, when I want to shoot fireballs out of my ass and kill people, I play games. *completely perplexed by the popularity of 'reality simulators'* Yeah, so, in sum - walking in game, whatever. It's fluff, and it'll probably get added just because the animations are already there, and people seem to really like filler like being able to walk and lie down and other stuff like that. Why this is a higher priority than, say, removing grind from the game, I do not know. Peace, -CxE

I'm pretty sure no one claimed it was a higher priority than more important things. We simply said we'd like to see it added.

The only outpost where all characters walk is the Granite Citadel at the moment.
Walking IS IMPORTANT ! I spend all my time and hard earned game money to get the Mesmer Fissure armour and no-one recognizes it because of my running all the time. I wish I could walk so people can actually have a look and say that I walk sexy with the fissure armour on. WE NEED WALK IN NEXT UPDATE. |

I made an account just to reply to this, even though it's a very old post. Despite what many of you think about wanting to toggling walking being silly, I have one very valid reason for wanting to be able to walk... because it's a "ROLE PLAYING" GAME!
When did we forget the RPG in MMORPG? There are allot of immersive qualities that are lost without the ability to control your pacing. And hell, there ARE functional reasons to want to be able to walk. How about being able to place yourself in a specific spot without having to back up and try again like your avatar is being channeled by a pick up truck? Walking is nessesary if you want to direct your movment more precisely. And you can forget about it if you want to make a Machinima, without walking, there's no way of making the movements of your character look natural, and what a waste, with all those other animations, GW would make a great engine for Machinima. What's silly is the animation is right there, every character is build in with the capability to walk, but you just can't access it yourself. Yes, it's a very small gripe, but it is silly you can't just use something that's already there. Not that this takes anything away from Guild Wars of course, it's a great game regardless. Even if I never thought "we need walking" it would be nice for roleplaying and whatsoever. Also, when you need to step on a determinate point (ex. a pressure plate) it's difficult to go on the exact spot when running. The first movement I thought about that we can't do in this game is swim, as I remember in Lineage2 you can swim and that was funny (and useful)...and it looks like in gw2 there will be swimming (well, there's also underwater areas so it's a bit different but still..) I know it's not as easy as some command as "dance" or "bow" as they're stationary, and we'll probably never see it, but yes, it would be something nice. For me more than new weapons skins, but I know nobody would agree. Oh and if you wanna do some "forced walk" you can always walk on ice or tar...or hug the walls with a certain degree |
